    Gaza – Decrease in marriages and an increase in the divorce rate in 2022

    Head of the Supreme Council for Sharia Judiciary in Gaza, Dr. Hassan Al-Jojo, that there is a decrease in marriages by 6.3% compared to 2021, while the total divorce rate reached (20.2%), as it increased from the previous year at an average rate of (0.9%).

    During his review of the Council’s achievements during the past year 2022, he stressed, through a meeting with an official at the headquarters of the Governmental Media Office, in Gaza, that the increase in the divorce rate was due to the decrease in marriages.

    Al-Jojo attributed the decrease in marriages during the past year, by (6.3%), to the economic conditions experienced by the people of the Gaza Strip.

    Al-Jojo said during the meeting that the council worked to develop its capabilities. To achieve qualitative and important achievements during the past year, by completing Sharia transactions and issues, resolving family disputes and disputes, and improving the level of actual performance in providing services in a manner that achieves the supreme interest of the country and the citizen under the slogan of the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law.

    He added that the Sharia courts completed (438,012) transactions during the year 2022, stressing that the total number of transactions during the year 2022 increased by (29.2%) compared to the previous year.

    He reported that the Supreme Sharia Court completed (1,253) incoming cases and transactions with a completion rate of 99.6%, noting that the Sharia Courts of First Instance completed a number of (337,752) various transactions, including judicial and executive cases, marriage, and divorce, arguments, and other transactions during the year 2022.

    Regarding marriage transactions, he mentioned that the courts of the first instance completed (19,550) marriage contracts, while cases of divorce from the same marriage amounted to (1,015) divorce transactions, indicating that the total divorce cases during the year 2022 amounted to (4,319) transactions.

    He explained that the departments and units of the Supreme Council for Sharia Judiciary completed (96,902) a variety of transactions, including family guidance, citizen complaints, licensing of Sharia rulings, and other transactions during the year 2022.

    Al-Jujo stressed the start of the computerized marriage contract, in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, as well as the computerization of the celibacy argument in order to facilitate citizens with regard to insurance and pensions without reviewing the court in this regard.

    Regarding the improvement of the work, he explained that it was approved to appoint new judges to complete the judicial body of the Sharia courts.

    He stressed that the council seeks to achieve justice in society, preserve civil peace and community security, and spread the legal and legal culture in accordance with the requirements of good governance through qualified judges.
