Russia Counters Ukrainian Drone Strikes, Moscow Unscathed

Russia has reportedly thwarted over 20 Ukrainian drone attacks in the past day, including in Moscow, according to officials. This development comes a day after Russia executed its largest drone attack on Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that 11 drones were intercepted over Moscow, Tula, Kaluga, and Bryansk regions on Saturday night, with an additional nine drones destroyed in the same areas on Sunday.

Moscow’s Mayor, Sergey Sobyanin, confirmed that the drone wreckage caused no injuries or damage in the city. However, in Tula, a drone crash into an apartment building resulted in window damage and a minor injury, as reported by Tula’s Governor, Alexey Dyumin.

The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) also experienced an attack, leading to power outages in parts of the region. Denis Pushilin, the head of DPR, described the situation as challenging and assured efforts to restore power and heat as quickly as possible.

Furthermore, Russia’s defense ministry announced the destruction of two S-200 anti-aircraft missiles over the Sea of Azov on Sunday morning. This incident follows Russia’s extensive drone attack on Kyiv, which, according to Ukraine‘s Air Force, involved intercepting 71 Shahed drones across six regions, predominantly in the Kyiv area. The attack left 77 residential buildings and 120 establishments in Kyiv’s center without power temporarily, although power was later restored.

As winter approaches, Ukraine fears a repeat of last year’s events when Russia targeted its energy infrastructure in a prolonged campaign.
