Jimmy Butler broke his silence on rumors he was dating Shakira, 46, in a new interview. The 34-year-old NBA star who plays for Miami heat, and the singer were spotted hanging out together in July, and it immediately sparked speculation that a new romance could be brewing. “He’s an incredible human being and an incredible talent, but you never know what people do, so people just make stuff up,” Jimmy told Rolling Stone.
“Just because we’re friends and she lives in Miami and her sons are big basketball fans doesn’t mean no one is dating anyone,” he continued, referring to to Shakira’s sons. Milan9, and Sasha7 years old, with whom she shares her ex Gerard spades. “Just because people are dating doesn’t mean someone is dating someone. But it gives everyone something to talk about, so take it and run with it. She’s really cool and that’s all I have!
After Rolling Stone jokingly responded, “‘Hips don’t lie,'” Jimmy laughed and said, “Yeah, do you like that?”
Jimmy’s latest comments about his status with Shakira come less than two months after Us Weekly reported that they were growing closer and enjoying getting to know each other. “They have gradually gotten closer over the past few weeks,” a source told the outlet. “Jimmy makes Shakira smile and she really enjoys getting to know him on a deeper level.”
The source also said that Jimmy was “different from other men” and that Shakira had dated in the past. “She likes the way he takes the lead in the relationship,” the source added. “He’s the one who makes plans with her, who pursues her, and that makes her feel valued.”
The source went on to say that although they’re taking it slowly, Shakira is “very open to seeing where things go” in the future. “It is too early to say whether there is long-term potential,” they added.
Before Shakira was seen with Jimmy, she made headlines for her split from Gerard, which they confirmed in June 2022. The former lovebirds were together for 11 years before going their separate ways.
