Supermodel Gigi Hadid has retired from the social network Twitter. The decision comes after tycoon Elon Musk acquired Twitter and laid off half of the company’s staff, but she also says the medium is filled with hate and narrow-mindedness.
The model announced on Instagram that she had disconnected her Twitter account following a series of layoffs, including within the company’s human rights team.
The medium caused harm
She says hate and bigotry have become more prominent in the media lately, and especially with new leadership. “This is not a medium I want to be a part of.” I can’t be on the medium, it’s not a safe place for anyone or a social platform, and will do more good than harm,” Hadid wrote.

Along with her statement, she posted a tweet from Shannon Raj Singh, a human rights consultant who had been fired from the company.
Yesterday was my last day at Twitter: the entire Human Rights team has been cut from the company.
I am enormously proud of the work we did to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights, to protect those at-risk in global conflicts & crises including Ethiopia,
