Authorities called on citizens to buy swans

The reason for this unusual event is that the city spends $ 10,000 a year to feed and care for these beautiful birds.

Officials in Lakeland, Florida, announced that they plan to sell swans in the coming weeks.

The reason for this unusual event is that the city spends $ 10,000 a year to feed and care for these beautiful birds. There are a lot of them, which creates problems related to the quality of life.

“We currently have 80 swans here on Lake Morton for feeding and care, so we are trying to sell about 30 to 40 of them to provide proper care for everyone,” said Bob Donohi, Lakeland Park and Recreation Director, CNN writes.

He pointed out that they have too many swans in one area, and that birds often “quarrel” around places in the lake and surrounding areas and wander the streets. Two swans were killed by drivers this year. Before selling the swans, the city will conduct an annual “wellness check” of the entire flock.

    – We are happy to have veterinarians in the city who ‘donate’ their services – Donohi added.

Although the city does not check the past of swan buyers, he said they try to meet every potential buyer before selling.

    – We will talk about who they are and what their plans are for swan or swans. And we will be available even if some of the swans have health problems on the way – said Donohi.

He pointed out that everyone who buys swans has little water in or near their homes, where swans can live comfortably. Others use swans for weddings, or place them in funeral or nursing homes, Donohi says.

The price of the swan is $ 400, which is below market value, according to his claims.
