Oprah Winfrey talks ‘stigma’ when shopping for weight loss

Oprah Winfrey, 69, opened up about her previous struggles with weight during a recent panel discussion for Oprah Daily’s “Classy The Life You Want: The State of Weight.” Not only did the talk show host talk about weight loss drugs like Ozempic, but she also opened up about the “stigma” she felt buying clothes when she was at her “heaviest” weight. “It’s a world that has always shamed people for being overweight,” she explained. “And all of us who have been through it know that people treat you differently, they just do.”

The What I Know For Sure author added that salespeople preferred to show her alternative items in stores due to her weight. “It’s that thing where people say, ‘Let me show you the gloves.’ Would you like to look at the handbags? Because we know there’s nothing here for you,” Oprah added. “There’s a condescension. There’s a stigma.

Earlier in the panel, the 69-year-old opened up about her “heaviest” weight she’s ever been. “You all know I’ve been on this journey for most of my life. My highest weight was 237 pounds,” she said. “I don’t know if there is another public figure whose struggle with weight has been exploited as much as mine over the years.”

The billionaire also noted that the public had constantly monitored her throughout her career. “You’ve all watched me go on diets and diets and diets,” she said, before adding that her diets are “a recurring thing because my body always seems to want to go back to a certain weight.” . Elsewhere during the discussion, which took place in late September, Oprah discussed the latest weight loss drugs going viral in Hollywood.

“Shouldn’t we all just be more accepting of the body you choose to be in?” It should be your choice,” the brunette beauty said. “Even when I started hearing about weight loss drugs, at the same time I was having knee surgery, and I was like, ‘I have to do this all alone,'” she continued. “Because if I take the medicine, it’s the easy way out.”

Oprah’s Recent Comments About Weight Come Cindy Crawfordclaims Oprah made him feel like an “object” during a previous appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. “At the time, I didn’t recognize him. Only when I thought about it and was like, “Oh my God. It really wasn’t good, really. Especially from Oprah,” the 57-year-old said in the Apple TV+ documentary series The Super Models. TV presenter Gayle King has since reacted to the comment and defended Oprah. Gayle noted that she was “surprised and a little disappointed” to hear about Cindy’s experience.
