Britney Spears has voiced her thoughts on the recent well-being check conducted by the police and the ensuing media coverage, calling it a “joke” in a message shared on Instagram.
In her post, the 41-year-old pop icon expressed her frustration, stating, “Is social checks still a joke in the news??? Come on America…we’re cooler than that, right?” She went on to explain that the police had come to her house and insisted on speaking to her because people were posting videos of themselves mimicking her actions. She called for accountability, saying, “People need to be responsible for their actions!”
Britney included a photo of ballet dancer’s legs standing on two large knives, seemingly alluding to the controversial video in question.
This statement came a day after Britney clarified that the knives in the original video, which was released on September 25, were not real and that she was not in danger. She reassured her fans, explaining that the knives were props rented from a store and that her actions were inspired by a performance by Shakira.
Despite her reassurances, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office revealed that they had credible reasons to conduct the well-being check. Captain Dean Worthy stated that they typically wouldn’t respond to calls from fans regarding celebrities unless there was a genuine threat. In this case, they determined that the individual who reported the concern had a personal connection to Britney. The police only spoke with her security team and her attorney through an intercom, without physically entering her residence.
