Yesterday we dreamed that we were going back to Manderley, but in reality, it was no dream: ‘ Rebecca ‘, a new adaptation of the novel by Daphne du Maurier that Alfred Hitchcock already took to the cinema in the iconic 1940 film, will come back to life on screen thanks to Netflix. With a premiere scheduled for October 21, we can already take a look at the first official trailer of the challenge that director Ben Wheatley (‘High-Rise’, ‘Free Fire’) has prepared with Lily James, Armie Hammer, and Kristin Scott Thomas leading the cast.
As the followers of ‘ Rebecca ‘ will well know, the story tells how an innocent young woman ( James ) falls in love and marries an aristocrat ( Hammer ), with whom she moves to their large family mansion located in Cornwall, south from England. But that house, dubbed Manderley, hides more secrets than you could imagine. The ‘ghost’ of the previous wife, who died under strange circumstances, is still present in each of the rooms, especially in regards to the loyalty of the housekeeper (Scott Thomas). Will the newcomer survive what awaits her in her new married life?
