“In my job, you have to understand the models that govern the world. It can help you see the future,” says GH Scott of Mahershala Ali.
Scott and his wife, Ruth, played by Myha’la Herrold, claim to be the owners of the house the Sandfords rented for the weekend and ask for shelter with the family that night. Soon, the Sandfords and their teenagers take refuge from a cyberattack that extends beyond a New York City power outage and becomes more terrifying by the minute.
“There’s no going back to normal,” Scott tells the Sandfords as their family must come to terms with their place in a world that’s falling apart.
“Have you not understood what is going on there? We’ve all been abandoned,” Danny, a doomsday prophet played by Kevin Bacon, tells the Sandfords just before a sonic boom causes widespread destruction.
Farrah Mackenzie and Charlie Evans complete the cast of the film adaptation based on a novel by Rumaan Alam. Leave the World Behind will be released in select theaters on November 22, before its streaming debut on Netflix on December 8.
