The glitter and poverty of Game of Thrones

It turns out that funding for the first season of the cult series was rather meager.

It turns out that the quality of not only our shows suffers from low budgets. So, when the very first season of “Game of Thrones” was filmed, the HBO TV channel was not at all sure of the success of the project, and therefore its funding was rather meager. The film crew did their best. They saved mainly on costumes, scenery, and scenes of mass battles. The talent of the authors made it possible to complete the work so that the audience did not notice the flaws.

But not all. The other day, George Martin, on whose series of books “A Song of Ice and Fire” the “Game” is based, named the worst scene in it. Such is the royal hunt in the sixth episode, during which King Robert Baratheon was killed. There are only a few people on the screen, including the king himself.

Martin himself does not describe this episode in the book, the reader learns about it from the stories of the heroes. However, according to the writer, anyone should understand that the royal hunt is a large-scale and crowded event: “There would be a hundred escorts, tents, huntsmen and dogs, horns would blow! And it turned out that the king was hanging out in the forest with three friends and spears in his hands, looking for a wild boar. But then we could not afford either horses or dogs with tents. ”

After the resounding success of the first season, money began to flow into the project.
