FBI’s Warning to Sikh Activists in the US Adds to India-Canada Geopolitical Tensions

Revelation of FBI's Caution to Khalistani Elements in the US Raises Diplomatic Stakes

The killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar has become a geopolitical flashpoint, igniting tensions between India and Canada. Now, it has emerged that the United States has been monitoring Khalistani elements within its borders and potentially offering protection—a revelation that could further inflame diplomatic friction.

According to a report published by The Intercept, an American media outlet, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) undertook visits to individuals associated with the Khalistani movement in the United States, cautioning them about potential threats to their lives. This disclosure adds a layer of complexity to an already sensitive international situation.

One of those visited by the FBI is Pritpal Singh, a US citizen and Sikh activist actively engaged with the American Sikh Caucus Committee. He recounted his experience to The Intercept, stating that several Sikh activists, including himself, received calls and visits from FBI special agents following the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.

As per Singh’s account, “I was visited by two FBI special agents in late June who told me that they had received information that there was a threat against my life.” He went on to reveal that the FBI did not disclose the source of the threat but advised him to exercise caution.

While the FBI has not officially commented on this latest development related to the Khalistani movement, two additional Sikh Americans corroborated the story, indicating that the investigative agency had similarly approached them to warn of potential death threats.

This revelation comes on the heels of an intelligence report by the Five Eyes Alliance, which suggested a connection between the assassination of Hardeep Nijjar and the Indian government. Nijjar, the former chief of the Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF), was a wanted figure in India.

The allegations made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau linking Nijjar’s killing to India triggered a geopolitical standoff between India and Canada. Both countries responded by expelling each other’s diplomats, and India suspended visa services for Canadians.

The emerging details about the FBI’s involvement with Sikh activists in the US add an intriguing dimension to this evolving diplomatic saga. It underscores the intricate web of international relationships and security concerns surrounding the Khalistani movement.

As tensions persist and new developments continue to emerge, the delicate balance of diplomacy in the region remains in flux, with implications for the relations between India, Canada, and the United States.
