A Burkinabe gendarme was killed overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday in an attack on the gendarmerie brigade, in the Cascades region (west) on the border with Cote d’Ivoire Media learned from security and local sources.
“Tuesday night around 9 pm, a group of armed men attacked the gendarmerie post, killing one of the gendarmes,” said a local elected official reached by telephone.
According to local media, the attackers opened fire on the installations of the gendarmerie post before heading towards the city at the time of the response.
The attack has not yet been claimed, said a security source, adding that the Burkinabe defense and security forces are currently deployed on the scene.
This attack comes three weeks after the kidnapping followed by the assassination of a religious in the same region.
Since 2015, Burkina Faso has been plagued by terrorist attacks that have claimed many victims and displaced thousands.
