Maurizio Sarri has admitted it was a mistake to push to leave Chelsea and return to Italy to Juventus, but he felt the situation at Stamford Bridge was unclear.
The coach is currently on the market after resigning from Lazio in March this year and has been linked with a possible return to the Premier League.
He had just one season in England (2018/2019) winning the Europa League during that time which was his first trophy in his coaching career.
A few years later, the Italian seems to have regretted leaving the cause of the tension that had been created around owner Roman Abramovich and director Marina Granovskaia.
“I could have stayed at Chelsea. I always wanted to return to Italy because the situation at Chelsea was not easy”.
“At that time, Abramovich was not allowed to go to England. I only saw him at away games. We also had a few phone calls, but very rarely,” said Sarri.
“My point of reference was the Navy. There was no sporting director, so the situation was not clear, so I wanted to return to Italy, but it was a mistake.”
“It would be better to stay there. I was a bit worried about the situation with Chelsea, the situation within the club. It was not clear”, he concluded.
