The Jim Henson Company, the production house famous for Fraggle Rock and Farscape, is teaming up with Summer Camp Island creator Julia Pott and former Disney star Raviv Ullman to create Paul The Bear, a new children's series.
The live-action series tells the story of a recently retired brown bear who rediscovers himself and his community. It is being introduced to buyers at MIPCOM. Paul The Bear is created and directed by Pott, a British animator and illustrator based in Los Angeles, and Ullman, known for playing Phil Diffy, the protagonist of the Disney series Phil of the Future.
The series is also produced by the Jim Henson Company, with Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford serving as executive producers alongside Pott and Ullman. Paul The Bear, set in an English coastal town, will feature a cast of real people and puppet animals and will feature a non-verbal lead character.
The synopsis for the series provided by the producers reads: “Paul T. Bear is recently retired from his life at sea as a long-distance fisherman, sharing his space with other bears at all hours of the day and night. He's thrilled to finally be on his own: painting still lives with his favorite household objects, taking part in plays, and volunteering at the library. However, not everything is easy in new places, and Paul will have to struggle to find balance in his new life.”
Pott created and produced six seasons of Summer Camp Island for Cartoon Network and HBO Max. Ullman, as a director and actor, has appeared in television projects for ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, HBO, MTV, Disney, and Comedy Central, and is currently developing his first feature film as a writer-director with Jersey Films 2nd Avenue.
Pott is repped by UTA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners. Ullman is repped by CESD Talent Agency and Vision Entertainment.
