Jake “El Gallo” Paul and the Baddest Man Alive, Mike Tyson, appear in a teaser for Netflix's upcoming mega-boxing event that's worthy of a cinematic trailer.
“There's never been a night like this,” declares the trailer's narrator, Samuel L. Jackson, as the fearsome Paul and Tyson, swinging and snarling in their respective corners, look ready to answer the bell for Netflix's entry into the world of live combat sports on November 15, with Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson.
There are plenty of images of previous fights featuring Paul knocking out his opponents and of Tyson, known for his explosive first-round knockouts during his prime. “This is a fight the world has been waiting for,” the narrative continues, as Netflix prepares to offer the fight to its global subscribers while trying to fill the 80,000-seat arena in Arlington, Texas.
Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson as a boxing event will be produced for Netflix by Paul's Most Valuable Promotions and will feature Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano as a co-main event, as well as preliminary bouts with Mario Barrios vs. Abel Ramos and Neeraj Goyat vs. Whindersson Nunes.
That he predicted that the fight would bring 25 million viewers to Netflix, making it the most-watched boxing match of all time. Paul also revealed in a press conference that he will earn $40 million for the fight.
“For Mike Tyson, this is his chance for redemption,” Gabe Spitzer, vice president of Netflix Sports, told THR for the story. Paul's manager, former UFC CFO Nakisa Bidarian, added: “If Mike Tyson at 58 comes back and knocks out Jake Paul, he'll be revered for the rest of his days. It would end the reign of this YouTuber. Now, if Jake knocks out Mike Tyson, sure, there's going to be a lot of people upset. But there's also going to be a lot more opportunities for him in the boxing world.”
