Celebrity makeup artist Nam Vo has a weakness for super hydrated, glowing skin- aka dewy dumpling skin. “The point here is to show that you're glowing from the inside like you're living a healthy lifestyle, even if that's not entirely true,” says the makeup artist in her interview with mindbodygreen. Since Nam Vo coined this term for glowing skin, which has gone viral, she has been sharing her tips for this coveted result at every opportunity.
Glowing skin needs exfoliation.
Nam Vo always starts with the basic steps of skincare, i.e. exfoliator, moisturizer, and sunscreen, emphasizing exfoliation. As she says, it's very important to remove dead skin cells to reveal the glowing skin underneath. He emphasizes that your moisturizer may not work because there are accumulated dead cells on the surface of your skin, as a result of which it is not absorbed and therefore does not work.
Use a moisturizer to brighten your face.
According to the makeup artist, if you have mature or unevenly textured skin, highlighter may not look good on it—it can easily accentuate fine lines and enlarged pores. To avoid this pitfall, Nam Vo suggests using a moisturizer to strategically highlight your cheekbones. “This is what I do with my moisturizer: I spread it all over my face but I also use a makeup brush to apply it to the high points of the cheekbones for a glow – when the moisturizer also has sun protection, the effect will be even better, especially if you are going to go out in the sun during the day,” says the expert.
Apply the powder topically.
Baking (the application of powder over concealer to ‘bake' and set) has its place and time, according to Nam Vo. “Baking is good if you're going to walk the red carpet and be photographed with a flash,” she explains. However, if you want naturally glowing and healthy skin, say no to baking. “A really big mistake that a lot of women make is putting powder on their face like they're going to make pancakes,” Nam Vo jokes. However, this does not mean that she does not use any powder in her makeup. She simply applies it precisely with an eyeshadow brush to the most oily areas, namely the sides of the nose, the center of the forehead, and the nasolabial folds.
