The UAE and Ghana announced on Sunday a $30 million partnership to support nature-based community development and climate solutions, identifying initial investment areas in the field.
According to WAM, The letter of intent between the two countries was signed in Abu Dhabi by Amna bint Abdullah Al Dhaheri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, and Samuel Abu Jinabor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources of Ghana, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The Letter of Intent identifies six areas for investment, including biodiversity, reforestation, and agroecology, which deliver multiple benefits in the areas of climate, biodiversity, and community development, with a focus also on gender equality and youth empowerment.
The speech, which will support Ghana’s “Resilient Plan” in the areas of nature and climate, includes indicators for measurement, reporting, and verification, drawing on Ghana’s pioneering efforts, under the framework of the enhanced initiative to reduce emissions from deforestation (REDD+).
It is worth noting that Ghana and the UAE are members of the Forest and Climate Leaders Partnership, a mechanism to coordinate public and private investments in forest and climate protection.
The two sides will discuss details of some initial joint projects, as part of their bilateral partnership, at COP29, which will be hosted by the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, next November, and then at COP30 next year.
