Roberto Cavalli: Tribute to a Legend

Milan Fashion Week 2024 is reported to have delivered one of the most emotional moments when Fausto Puglisi unveiled his first collection following the demise of the legendary designer Roberto Cavalli earlier this year. Among a cacophony of tulle, ruffles, and lace that dominated the audience’s imagination, a tribute appeared quite heartfelt when Cavalli’s image emerged on a screen. Iconic supermodels like Eva Herzigova, Joan Smalls, and Alek Wek emerged on the runway dressed in archival dresses of the 2000s paying homage to Cavalli. The dramatic moment of the show came when the widow of Cavalli, Eva, walked with the models on the catwalk. This poignant homage left the audience amidst tears.

    Ferragamo Brings Back Balletcore

Ferragamo dipped into the ballet core trend, reimagining the catwalk as the sparsest of ballet studios, with white curtains draped around and a round shape. Leggings, leotards, and ballet-inspired shoes danced their way across the catwalk, as creative director Maximilian Davis wove together inspiration from archival work done for legend Rudolf Nureyev. Guests such as Aron Piper and Solange were some of the people seen applauding the subtle yet powerful creations from the front row.

Diesel Transforms Fashion into Techno Rave

Diesel presented one of the most memorable experiences in Milan Fashion Week 2024 as it transformed its catwalk into a techno rave. The runway itself was created using more than 14,000 kilos of waste denim flakes – an achievement for the brand in meeting sustainability targets. Models stomped to the beats of techno music, wearing distressed jeans, fringed leather jackets, and many other more for-the-time creations made by Glenn Martens in double-breasted denim. Colored contact lenses completed edgy models perfecting the collection as well as Diesel’s profile as an avant-garde group in fashion.

Among the guests was Damiano David from the pop-rock band Måneskin, who sported a confident leather outfit.

Bottega Veneta: A Whimsical Retake on Nostalgia

Bottega Veneta’s creative director Matthieu Blazay imbued Milan Fashion Week 2024 with a childlike magic. The collection revealed Bottega silhouettes existing with the playful feature through an exaggerated carry in oversized leather collars and sloppy seams on shoulders. The clothes reflected a whimsy almost as if ethereal, the new rendition of everyday fashion. To add to the lightness of the series, A$AP Rocky, Jacob Elordi, and Kendall Jenner stayed as viewers on fluffy beanbags, further nurturing a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

Boss: Style for the “Out of Office” Generation

Boss took its inspiration from the contemporary cultural sea change to a better work-life dynamic with its “Out of Office” range. The brand merged work and play, making both different styles wearable for the boardroom and a social soiree. With elements such as yoga mats and tennis rackets on the catwalk, sporty accents managed to create a light and carefree atmosphere in the collection. The former’s catwalk warriors included sporty notables such as Taylor Fritz and Alica Schmidt, while his buddies David Beckham and Dixie D’Amelio roamed around the catwalk as guests sitting in the front row.

    Gucci: A Sunset-Inspired Dream

For Gucci’s summer 2025 collection, creative director Sabato De Sarno took inspiration from this universal beauty of the sunset. Warm hues of sunset played around on the runway with the color patterns of the sunset-inspired clothing designs. The show was a perfect epitome of elegance and casualness intertwined with nostalgia through cuts inspired by the 60s. The allure of the show added A-listers Dakota Johnson and Nicola Coughlan sitting in the front row.

    Max Mara: Clean, Timeless Basics

Max Mara goes back to the essence for its 2024 presentation at Milan Fashion Week, as inspiration from clean, timeless basics is brought forward. Perhaps with an undertone of durability and minimalism in mind, designed pieces begin to cater for the ever-increasing call for a sustainable fashion perspective as requested by more and more consumers. Inspired by detail and elegance, Hypatia of Alexandria, a 4th-century philosopher, sets the jumping point in this collection, resulting in a sequence of simplicity and chicness that forms the backdrop to what simplicity can be defined as. Max Mara reminded the fashion world why simplicity can indeed be the ultimate form of luxury, with muted tones and classic cuts.

    MAX&Co. Celebrates Chosen Families

In collaboration with stylist Lorenzo Posocco, MAX&Co. unveiled the “Found Family” capsule collection, a love letter to chosen families and inclusion, paying homage to ’90s lines and drawing on inspiration from the era with gender-neutral designs, to share with various wardrobes. Minimalist cuts and a neutral color palette serve as a backdrop for pops of red and yellow, emphasizing the building of community and connection now.

Fendi Calls Time on Its First Century

Fendi chatted over late-night lovin’ on the outskirts of Milan. The house’s artistic director, Kim Jones, showed that elegance from the 1920s was combined with feminine techniques. Some outstanding pieces included transparent clothes and crystal-embellished detailing, which sometimes was a calling allure for dashing on the runway. A century of glamour: Fendi celebrated its legendary heritage with a show that stars like Shailene Woodley deserved to travel worldwide to attend, in Milan.
