    Bolivian President to Meet Putin at BRICS Summit

    Bolivian President Luis Arce plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the BRICS summit in Kazan, Bolivian Ambassador to Moscow Maria Luisa Ramos Bolivian president says pleased with outcome of his visit to Russia according to Tass

    “Of course, definitely. We are now organizing this with other heads who will come here [to Kazan]. Of course, we will organize a meeting with President Putin,” quoting his as saying .

    BRICS was formed in June 2006 with the participation of Brazil, Russia, India, China and was initially called BRIC by the first letters of the names of the founding countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China). Later, South Africa joined the union, and the organization was named BRICS. (South African Republic in English).

    Five more countries joined BRICS on January 1, 2024: Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia. It was decided not to change the name of the association.

    The BRICS summit, set to be held from October 22 to 24, 2024, will see Russia assuming the chairmanship of the group, which was initially founded in June 2006. BRICS, an acronym representing Brazil, Russia, India, and China, later expanded to include South Africa in 2010. The organization serves as a platform for these nations to collaborate on economic, political, and global governance issues, and it has continued to grow in influence.

    Bolivia has applied to join BRICS in the summer of 2023.

    Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in June 2024 that the association had decided to take a break  with new members and announced a new system of partner country categories – “steps.” In July, there were  24 countries in line to join the association .
