3 collagen-rich foods to add to your diet for smoother skin

In the search for more elastic skin and a glowing complexion, there are certain fruits and foods that can help us. After consulting with medical experts and dermatologists, we identified three foods that can boost collagen production in the body, resulting in younger, healthier looking, glowing skin. Find them below!

    Blueberries

Since it is not possible to completely prevent the appearance of wrinkles with age, it is important to stay hydrated and eat a variety of nutrient-rich fruits to maintain a youthful glow. One fruit that has been linked to collagen synthesis and contains healthy antioxidants is blueberries.

Dr. Loucas explains that they are “rich in antioxidants that help protect the skin from daily external and internal influences.” In addition, blueberries are rich in vitamin A and C, with vitamin C also acting against the breakdown of collagen. Loucas says blueberries are also known for their anti-inflammatory properties. “Inflammation, among other things, is linked to many skin conditions in the body, including photo-aging, eczema, acne and rosacea.”

    Egg whites

Collagen and other skin-friendly amino acids are found naturally in egg whites, says Dr. Chacon. Collagen is a key component in preventing fine lines and wrinkles, and it is believed that consuming egg whites can help your body’s natural collagen synthesis.

When it comes to sagging skin, collagen from egg whites “reduces wrinkles around the eyes and on the face,” he notes. As for how much to consume per day, Chacon says that “generally speaking, eating up to five eggs a week” is great for your skin and that it “won’t hurt your heart health.”

    Avocado

Avocados are an excellent superfood for glowing skin at all ages, says Chacon. It’s also extremely rich in vitamin E and good fats, he explains. You can consume avocados to protect yourself from photoaging and sun damage as much as possible.

The vitamin A in avocado contributes to a greater presence of collagen in your body. Because avocados are a good source of monounsaturated fats, they help you feel fuller for longer. Using avocado oil in cooking and skin care is also a great way to enjoy the benefits of this food.
