The presentation of Chloé’s fall/winter 2024/25 collection was a clear statement for female empowerment: After all, it was designer Chemena Kamali’s first show as the French label’s new creative director. A woman at the helm of a major fashion house – still a rarity among all the male creative directors. Chloé, whose collections in the recent past have mostly been designed by women, remains true to itself. And knows exactly which looks make women feel strong today. For example, jackets and coats with capes, as seen on the catwalk for the current season. A fashion trend for modern superheroines that was also discovered in several other collections this fall.
Fashion trend capes: How to wear them in autumn
The current Chloé collection is a mix of delicate femininity, French nonchalance, and elements from the 70s: ruffle blouses and dresses meet comfortable knitwear and lots of leather. Some capes were also made of the latter, for example, short versions made of black smooth leather and long coats made of shiny patent leather. They seemed like an extra layer of fashion power to the feminine designs. Trench coats were also given the trendy detail and the models looked like a hybrid of superhero and secret agent in them.
Capes and elements in this style were already popular in summer 2024, adorning airy dresses or blouses and giving casual denim outfits that certain something. In autumn, the Altuzarra label is also giving us fashion superpowers. The new collection includes modified barn jackets that are combined with cape details with slim trousers and ballerina shoes. The perfect look for the transitional period. For really cool days, Erdem and Ralph Lauren delivered a cozy version of the fashion trend: The two labels showed knitted capes for the new season, which are now worn in layering with matching dresses or sweaters.
How elegant and suitable for evening wear capes can look this autumn was shown at the Chanel haute couture show. There was a dramatic moment when a model floated down the catwalk in a floor-length, embroidered cape with a little black dress. The cape was worn with a short dress as a replacement for a blazer. So for the coming season, we like to transform ourselves into superheroes for the big entrance. After all, we carry our superpowers inside us anyway, but we can now show them off to the outside world in a more stylish way.
