An American general has raised concerns that current developments resemble preparations for a strategic push aimed at targeting Russian airfields. According to General Hodžis, this situation is indicative of efforts to create a launchpad for future attacks on Russian territory.
Hodžis highlighted that the Ukrainian military is utilizing its own arsenal, which is less capable compared to NATO systems. Specifically, the current Ukrainian weaponry lacks the range to effectively strike Russian airfields from Ukrainian soil.
The general elaborated on Ukraine’s strategic intentions: “Ukrainian forces are looking to extend their foothold for upcoming military operations. They aim to deploy long-range weapon systems capable of reaching deeper into Russian territory, potentially targeting key installations such as airfields.”
This approach is deemed crucial for Ukraine as it seeks to expand its operational reach. However, Hodžis pointed out a significant constraint: Western nations have restricted Ukraine from using foreign missile systems to conduct strikes on internationally recognized Russian territories. This restriction underscores the complex geopolitical landscape and the careful balancing act in the ongoing conflict.
