Director Craig Gillespie Joins Creative Artists Agency (CAA) After Toronto Film Festival Success

Acclaimed Director of 'Cruella' and 'I, Tonya' Finds New Home at CAA Following Buzzworthy 'Dumb Money' Premiere

Celebrated director Craig Gillespie, renowned for his impressive portfolio including Disney’s “Cruella” and the Oscar-winning “I, Tonya,” has inked a significant deal with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) following the successful premiere of his latest film, “Dumb Money,” at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Gillespie previously called UTA his home in the industry.

“Dumb Money,” a dramedy centered around the GameStop phenomenon, boasts a star-studded ensemble cast featuring talents like Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Nick Offerman, Pete Davidson, Sebastian Stan, Shailene Woodley, America Ferrera, and Anthony Ramos. The film garnered substantial acclaim at TIFF and commenced a limited release on September 15, with plans for a wide release on September 29. Gillespie’s creation is set to captivate audiences globally as it embarks on a journey through prestigious international film festivals, including the San Sebastian International Film Festival and the Zurich Film Festival.

Gillespie’s directorial prowess extends beyond “Dumb Money.” His 2021 reinvention of the classic Disney villainess in “Cruella,” starring Emma Stone, earned an Academy Award for Best Costume Design. In 2017, “I, Tonya,” featuring Margot Robbie, secured three Academy Award nominations and clinched one for Best Supporting Actress, awarded to Allison Janney.

The director’s impressive filmography also includes “The Finest Hours,” “Million Dollar Arm,” the remake of “Fright Night,” and “Lars and the Real Girl,” which showcased the talents of Ryan Gosling.

While Gillespie is primarily recognized for his work in cinema, he left a significant mark in the world of television as the primary director behind Hulu’s Emmy-nominated series, “Pam & Tommy.”

Craig Gillespie’s move to CAA is a testament to his rising stature in the industry, marked by an array of critically acclaimed projects and a promising future in storytelling and entertainment.
