    The corona cancels the Vienna balls

    The coronavirus pandemic is negatively affecting the ball season in Vienna, as the organizers of the big balls have announced their cancellation.

    Most of the big balls in Vienna will not be held, the “Committee of Traditional Viennese Balls” said.

    Thus, the Ball of Doctors, the Ball of Lawyers, the Ball of Officers, the Concordia Ball, and the Ball of Pharmacy will not be held. As long as the number of newly infected is high, there are no quick and affordable tests or vaccines, organizing balls is not responsible behavior, the statement said.

    Also, the Committee of Traditional Ball Organizers considers it impossible to organize balls during the ball season due to restrictions that apply, including that one person can only dance with another person from the same household, and that all ball visitors must respect a distance of at least one meter.

    By the way, balls are an important economic factor, because last year alone, according to the Chamber of Commerce, about 520,000 visitors to the balls achieved a turnover of 151 million euros.

    For now, it is still unclear whether the Vienna Opera Ball will be held, because the Opera has not yet decided on that
